World Storytelling Day Celebration
Noche de Cuentos @ mi biblioteca

01-07-10. ANNOUNCING NEW NATIONAL PROGRAM: Noche de cuentos @ mi biblioteca to be celebrated on World Storytelling Day, each March 20th, the day of the spring equinox and/or throughout that week.
REFORMA: The National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos & the Spanish Speaking received a one-time mini-grant from ALA as seed money for working on the project of ALA President Camila Alire's Presidential Literacy Initiative.
Storytelling and the oral traditions are key in the transmission and preservation of culture, as well as a significant tool in developing literacy skills. The mission of of Noche de Cuentos @ mi biblioteca is to promote and preserve the art of storytelling within our Latino communities in the US. Our language and our stories bind us together, they make us stronger.
On the first night of Spring, and through out that week, families from Latino communities across the United States will join the global community in the celebration of World Storytelling Day as they gather at their libraries to share stories, songs and experiences from their families, their communities, or their countries.
Using the theme "Everyone Comes from Somewhere", REFORMA invites libraries everywhere to join us in bringing Latino families and communities together through the celebration of Noche de cuentos.
RESOURCES: Noche de Cuenots @ mi biblioteca kits, a link to World Storytelling Day, and other materials will soon be available and accessible on the REFORMA.
